Be Still and Know that I am God

Image
I thought I had my life figured out, at least a general plan. Well one of my roommates told me, "When you make plans, God laughs and says He has something else in mind." Found this on Pinterest. Here is the original source. My life has been full of a lot of changes this summer. Probably one of the most next to the summer Mom passed away. I've had to make some hard decisions and figure out what the Lord wants me to do with my life. I thought I was graduating from UVU in the spring. Yeah, that isn't happening. I thought I would then graduate in December.  That, again, isn't happening. I am extending school til next spring semester, so I should be graduating spring 2014. I wanted to have less stress on myself, for my own sanity, and there are more opportunities for leadership and preparing for the future if I stay another semester. I was also received inspiration this past semester that I need to go to graduate school in the next few years (not sure how many)...

BASEcamp Week 3: Cedar City

Image
Week 3 was the last session of BASEcamp this season. Here are some of the interesting things about the Cedar City session: We had 12-13 year olds participate. Generally, only 14-18 year olds participate in a youth conference activity such as BASEcamp. Guides were paired up in co-ed companionships, well, except for me, and I was in a tri-panionship with two of the girl guides. Some companionships got girl groups and some had boy groups. Very unique set up if I do say so. There were about 40 youth, twice as many as in St. George. It was good to have more youth. All of the guides were involved with their own youth. The housing guidelines were very strict. We each had our own key cards and wristbands to eat in the student dining services. If either was lost or broken, or if we got locked out of our rooms, it was $5. Luckily that didn't happen very much...it was kind of annoying that if anything happened, it would be $5. (It became our running joke of the week.) Those were prob...

BASEcamp Week 2: St. George

I have not served a mission, but I imagine that this feeling of longing and hard adjustment back into normal life is similar to what a return missionary feels when they come home. BASEcamp has been an incredible experience that has changed me and has motivated me to become better. Week 2 was held at Dixie State, in St. George, Utah. This session was interesting for many reasons: We as the staff now knew each other, so there wasn't an awkward feeling between us. It is a billion degrees in St. George. Okay not really, but it is DANG hot outside there! We had 20 youth participants TOTAL sign up. How many were boys? 3. How many girls? 17. (Good ratio for the boys I guess?) More leaders than actual boys meant that two of our guides (counselors) were part of our company. Our girls were their youth for the week. Using the term guide instead of counselor. That has been an interesting change, but it was really cool to think about. A counselor is often known as someone who is there ...
