The one week I don't have my camera....plus I'm always thinking
I'm always thinking, I've decided, about lots of different things. I think each week, I'll probably end up having at least two main topics I've thought about that week, if not more.
The first and most recent is the fact that the most exciting things I've done so far I can't show you because I don't have my camera! I accidentally left it at Terreye's house after being there for the weekend. I knew I didn't have it because I didn't remember where I would've packed it. I got back to Orem hoping somehow it would be there, but it was found a few days later at Terreye's. I thought, "Well, I'll be okay. Nothing too exciting will happen." Boy was I wrong! It all started Saturday, well not that I would've taken a picture of this, but the adventures started with me getting hired at Pinnacle Security as an AC agent (short for Account Creation). Yes! I have a job!!!!! I am very excited about this. And from my first day of training as well as talking to Russ, the guy who got my resume to his/now my supervisor to interview me, and Whitney, a new employee I was observing, it seems like it'll be pretty easy. The thing that was weighing me down was how long it was taking to go over everything and how late it was. Ugh. I think that's the only thing I'm not excited for is having later shifts. And that I don't want to miss stuff, but I don't know how well that's going to work out. I'm nervous. And a little stressed about that. But that's it so far.
My next adventure of the week was night hiking with some of my ward Sunday night after Ward Prayer. This idea is new to me, as are many things here in Happy Valley, but it was way cool to meet together with lots of people from my ward and just pray together. Then a bunch of us were wanting to play games or do something after, so we met up and somehow people decided a night hike would be a good idea. I can't really say I had anything to do with deciding because not very many people in my ward know me yet. That's been hard, wanting to be involved and play and such but everyone seems to already just want to play/hang out with each other since they know each other. But my roommates Shelly and Betty are really good about inviting and getting me to do stuff with them. So I feel included. Not to mention there were about four or five different people wanting to sit by me in Sunday School. Ha ha. Anyway, the night hike was awesome. We ended up going to Bridal Veil Falls in Provo Canyon. It wasn't too bad of a hike, once we found the right trail. Once we got to the top, several people wanted to play Mafia, but ended up taking pictures and getting on Facebook to tag each other on top of the mountain. Ha ha! I thought it was hilarious! (Of course they didn't tag me because, yes, they don't know me yet.) Then we went down and someone wanted to go for a "nature walk" at Sundance. So we drove up to Sundance and hiked around, backtracking a lot because no one really knew where we were going. That wasn't the worst part of it. I ended up walking/hiking with a guy named Dave the whole time. He has a hard time hiking that much and I didn't want to leave him behind, so we hiked and talked. He's a nice guy, 30 years old, sings, likes movies. Anyway, the greatest part of this part of the adventure was the fact that we started hiking to more falls that one of the guys named Matt knew where it was, but we weren't going the way he normally went. Instead of finding falls, we found a cabin. Yup. We were lost. And when we were trying to figure out what to do, this voice and small light came from the cabin balcony, asking us "kids" what we were doing. Turned out to be one of us trying to get us all. And it worked. Ha ha. We then went back and I helped Dave that whole way up and down, walking behind or in front of him, and on the way down having a hold of him so he wouldn't lose his footing, especially when he couldn't see. It was really dark by the time we got close to the bottom again. It was scary. But we made it! Safe and sound. :)
My next adventure I really wish I had had my camera for was mattress jumping/surfing with the guys upstairs. Monday/Yesterday I had my first day of training and was exhausted, checked my phone on the way out and had a message from Michael, one of the guys upstairs, telling me I wishing missing something epic. So I ran up after I got home and saw the epic-ness in MY apartment- a mattress fort!!! Management got us all new mattress today and so I think everyone was having fun with them. The guys had just stacked them all in their front room and were jumping/falling onto them from their couches. After I had a few turns jumping, someone had the idea to slide on the stairs with them. Now the only stairs here in the building are between floors and are concrete. Luckily, we got enough mattresses to use not only to slide on, but to slide in to. We tried lots of ways to slide down those mattresses: on our bums, on our stomachs, on another mattress, in a train on another mattress, surfing on a mattress, brief attempt to surf on a cardboard box, somersault down (seriously...it was their Korean roommate), and I think my personal favorite was sandwiching ourselves with one person on a mattress and another person doing the same thing on top of them. Let me just say I only did some of these...the guys did most of the rest. Ha ha! It was the most epic thing ever! And it reminded me of my amazing mattress adventures in Ephraim. Including the sleepover part. (Sigh)
Well, like I said in the beginning, it feels like I'm always thinking about a million little things. And the other thing lately has been how many people have been texting me or writing to me on Facebook saying things like, "You're in Provo?! We need to play!" Or "Are you in Provo now? I want to see you!" I love that people want to hang out, but I am just confused why everyone now remembers me. Ha ha. Okay I get that I was about two hours away from everyone in little ol' Ephraim and people wouldn't really want to come that far to see me. Yes, I'm in Orem. I'm really excited to be in this new "bubble" and I can't wait to see people. But it also feels weird to see people I haven't seen for pretty much two years, or even just a year when it comes to some of my camp friends. I wonder if this weird feeling is kind of what high school reunions are going to feel like. Or for missionaries who come home. That's a new thought to my thoughts....I feel like I've become a completely different person than I was in high school because of Snow and also because of Oakcrest. Imagine what missionaries are going to be like....
Tangent thought...I'm really excited for my friend Brian Turner to come home. He comes back in October. We knew each other at Alta, but didn't really hang out or talk until the summer after we graduated and into my first semester at Snow. I've written him his whole mission, and I'm the only one besides his family who has done so. Oh. Speaking of...I need to finish writing him a letter telling him about my Orem adventures....huh....
Well okay then...to sum um my major thoughts of the week: One- I really wish I had had my camera for my amazing adventures the past few days. Oh, and, I have hung out with guys more the last two weeks than I did all of last summer. Yeah. I am actually super happy about that. Two-Did people really forget about me and remember me just because I moved to Happy Valley? Or was it convenience of location really the big part? Ha ha even better, I have a high school friend Kelsey Holgate that I found out last night lives upstairs. Who knew, right? Small world! It's a small world after all...ha ha my stories on that, will be for another day! :)
