Tender Mercies

Every time I see a penny on the ground, I pick it up and say a prayer of gratitude for a tender mercy Heavenly Father sent me.

That may seem odd to you, but when I was at Oakcrest, we had this staff devotional once about remembering the small things, especially the little blessings or tender mercies in our lives. Every time we had even the smallest blessing in our day, we could go to one of the directorship, tell them our tender mercy, and put a penny in a jar.

I have started doing that in my life, but the pennies come from finding them during my day. I seem to find one just when I need to be humbled about my circumstances, when I've been going through something really difficult, or when I need it the most to remind me how blessed I am.

I found the coolest penny the other day. I have been going through a lot lately, and this penny I found was almost completely black and beat up. When I saw it, I wasn't even sure that it was a penny, but sure enough it was. This was to show me that Heavenly Father really is aware of me and just wants me to work hard and go through some things. I have finally seen something come out of my hard work- I got offered an internship for fall semester at Cedar Fort Publishing on their marketing team! I wasn't going to do it at first, but something about it just seems so right. I think it helps that it is an LDS publisher, distributing books and products to Deseret and Seagull Book- it's pretty much working for either of those companies in my actual field. Real-life PR experience outside of the classroom? I'm way stoked.

I just wanted to share that with you and share my testimony. I know that Heavenly Father is aware of us. Even if we aren't doing all that we should all of the time or feel like He isn't listening because we aren't getting the righteous desires of our hearts, He really cares and listens. He knows what's best for us even if we think we know what is best. He is just trying to give us something even better. I know this to be true!

I thank Him every day for the tender mercies He brings in my life.
