You're a Firework!


Okay, so I want you to read the lyrics to Katy Perry's song "Firework" before you read the rest of my post.

Really, you need to. The words explain why I love it so much. The tune is super catchy, too, but I just love the message.

I love this song for a couple of different reasons. The first reason is because my one of my best friends, Audrey Roper, was the one who showed it to me and it reminds me of her and our friendship. I also love the song because of the good sound it has. The music itself is fun and makes me feel good! The biggest reason I love it is what I learn from it. Many times in my life I have felt worthless and like no cares about what I have to offer the world. I think we all tend to feel this way every once in a while. I believe it's a natural human tendency for us to feel those emotions.

One of my favorite parts of the song summarizes this point well. It says:
"Boom, boom, boom,
Even brighter than the moon, moon, moon,
It's always been inside of you, you, you,
And now it's time to let it through-ough-ough"

We all have the spark inside of us. We're often afraid of being ourselves and letting that spark shine for others to see. I know this is so true for me, which is probably another reason I love this song so much. It's teling me that I am worth something, even in the world's eyes.

Everyone has something special to offer the world. It's so important to not judge anyone on their past or because of what they appear to be. We have much more that makes up who we are than people realize.

If you've seen "Madagascar 3", you know that "Firework" is in it. I fell in love with the movie not only because it's even more hilarious than the first two "Madagascar" movies, but the scene with this song is incredible! You can do anything you dream of when you put your mind to it. You can't let anyone else tell you what you are worth or what you have to offer the world. You get to decide what you want to be, the type of person you want to become, and what you will do for those around you.

YOU are a firework, full of energy, full of color, and full of life.

His Hand in Your Life

I was talking with a friend earlier this week about life and how we got to where we are right now. It got me thinking a lot about how the Lord's hand has directly guided my life. We don't always know why things happen the way they do. Actually most of the time we don't understand that, but the Lord knows. He will choose to tell us when we need to know, even if that isn't until the next life. I know that everything happens for a reason. I have had my share of frustrating moments where I wish I knew why things happen the way the way they do right now, but I'm grateful that the Lord is in charge of everything. In Christ Alone

 Hello there!  I have been deciding for three months what my first post back from the mission should be about. It has been hard to decide and I finally realized what it needed to be about - our Savior Jesus Christ.  Before my mission, I knew my Savior was there for me. He had helped me during my hard times, especially when Mom passed away, and I felt the "balm in Gilead" heal me. But I had never truly realized that He could help me change, truly change.  During the summer of 2014 at BASEcamp, we sang a song made popular by Owl City "In Christ Alone".
