First impressions and making judgments
I have realized that we as people tend to jump to conclusions and make judgments of others very quickly, especially being a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where we are taught to make good judgments of people. Well, I think we also tend to make these judgments incorrectly more times than not.
First impressions of people often are good indicators of how people are...actually, I don't believe that anymore. Within the last few years, the first impressions I have had of people have been completely WRONG. People that I have not had the best first impressions of are actually some of the coolest people I have met.
For example, there is a person in the PR program that the first I met them, I instantly was rubbed the wrong way. I did not like them one bit, but as I have gotten to know them through interacting with them in my classes, I have come to find they are an incredible person. I would never have come to that conclusion unless I let go of my judgments and see more than just the first impression.
We all have our own struggles and trials in our lives. We all have things we are going through which cause us to act in certain ways. We all have the agency to act in these ways, even if people are going to judge us for acting in those ways. We must make the choice to make good judgments of others and not jump to conclusions.
I want to make the change in my life that I will not make judgments off of first impressions. I challenge you to do something that will make your life better and help you not overreact to first impressions or judging others.
